How to Use Quick Pit

Getting Started

1. Grant Permissions

Quick Pit requires the following permissions to work properly:

• Location (Always): Allows the app to monitor your location in the background and alert you when approaching saved stops
• Microphone: Enables voice commands for hands-free operation
• Speech Recognition: Converts your voice to text for commands like "pit stop"

The app will request these permissions when you first launch it. You can also manage them in Settings → Quick Pit.

2. Add Your Favorite Stops

• Tap the "+" button to add a new pit stop
• Enter the name of your favorite stop (e.g., "Buc-ee's", "Love's Travel Stop", "Cracker Barrel")
• The app will search for matching locations when you're driving

While Driving

Automatic Monitoring

• Quick Pit automatically monitors your location when you're driving 12+ mph
• Every 60 seconds, it searches for your favorite stops within 5 miles
• When matches are found, it announces them via audio (closest to farthest)

Voice Commands

• After each announcement, the app listens for 3 seconds
• Say "pit stop" to launch Apple Maps with directions
• If you don't respond, it continues to the next announcement

Example Flow

1. App announces: "Dollar General is 0.1 miles away"
2. You say: "pit stop" → Apple Maps launches with directions
3. OR you stay silent → App continues: "Wards Grocery is 0.7 miles away"

Safety Features

• Speed Threshold: Only activates when driving 12+ mph
• Hands-Free: All interaction via voice commands
• Direction Aware: Only announces stops in your direction of travel
• Duplicate Prevention: Won't announce the same stop twice within 5 minutes
• Battery Efficient: Automatically pauses when stopped

Test Mode

To test the app without driving:

• Tap "Bypass Speed Check" to disable the 12 mph requirement
• Tap "Refresh Search Now" to manually search for nearby stops
• This is useful for testing at home or while parked

Managing Your Stops

Editing Stops

• Tap on any pit stop in the list to edit its name
• Changes are saved automatically

Deleting Stops

• Swipe left on any pit stop in the list
• Tap the delete button
• The stop will be removed immediately

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the app need "Always" location access?

Quick Pit needs to monitor your location in the background while you're driving to alert you when approaching your favorite stops. This is the core functionality of the app. All location data stays on your device and is never transmitted to external servers.

Does Quick Pit drain my battery?

Quick Pit is designed to be battery efficient. It automatically pauses location updates when you're stopped (below 12 mph) and only performs searches every 60 seconds while driving. Background location does use some battery, but the app minimizes this impact.

Why am I not hearing announcements while driving?

Check the following:

• Make sure you're driving at least 12 mph (check the speed indicator at the top)
• Verify that your favorite stops are within 5 miles of your route
• Ensure your device volume is turned up
• Check that you haven't heard the same announcement in the last 5 minutes (duplicate prevention)

Can I use Quick Pit with CarPlay?

CarPlay integration is planned for a future update. Currently, Quick Pit works in the background and announces via your device's speaker.

What happens if I say "pit stop" by accident?

Apple Maps will launch with directions to the announced location. You can simply close Maps and continue driving. The app will resume monitoring after you return from navigation.

Where is my data stored?

All your pit stop data is stored locally on your device using iOS SwiftData. Nothing is sent to external servers. See our Privacy Policy for more details.

Can I backup my pit stops?

Pit stops are included in your device's iOS backup (iCloud or iTunes). Restoring from a backup will restore your saved stops.

Troubleshooting

Location not updating

• Go to Settings → Quick Pit → Location
• Make sure "Always" is selected
• Enable "Precise Location"
• Restart the app

Voice commands not working

• Go to Settings → Quick Pit
• Make sure Microphone and Speech Recognition are enabled
• Check that Siri is enabled in Settings → Siri & Search
• Speak clearly and say "pit stop" (not "pitstop" or "pit-stop")
• Restart the app

No audio announcements

• Check your device volume
• Make sure "Do Not Disturb" is off
• Check that your device is not in silent mode
• Restart the app

App crashes or freezes

• Force quit the app and reopen it
• Restart your device
• Make sure you're running the latest version of iOS
• Make sure you have the latest version of Quick Pit from the App Store

Periodic searches not running

• Make sure you're driving at least 12 mph
• Check that Background App Refresh is enabled: Settings → General → Background App Refresh → Quick Pit
• Verify location permissions are set to "Always"
• Restart the app
